welcome to M.I.C.R.O!

Movement for the Inclusion of Racialized Communities of Ontario

The mission of MICRO, the Movement for the Inclusion of Racialized Communities of Ontario is to encourage people of African descend to intentionally reconnect with what remains of their culture, to embrace it in order to strengthen their cultural identity and heritage, to better anchor themselves in their environment and respond to the challenges of the world, for better living together in Canada.

UBUNTU is the only value we stand for. (I am because we are)

This concept encompasses the notions of truth, integrity, humanity, trust, respect, solidarity, sharing, trust, community, which we wish to bring back to the heart of everything we do.

When launching the "Cultural Connections" program, the promoters of M.I.C.R.O (Movement for the Inclusion of Racialized Communities of Ontario) could not have imagined that by equipping Black parents to support their children in developing their cultural identity, 10 children would express the desire to tell their stories.

It is in this spirit that the writing workshop "Les petits crayons de M.I.C.R.O" (The Little Crayons of M.I.C.R.O) was created. For seven weeks, these young authors participated in virtual sessions led by Ankwetta B. Achaleke, a prolific author, writing coach, and editor at GloBUNTU Books®.

Through their eyes as children, we discover the beauty of cultural diversity, the importance of traditions, and the power of family memories. From the magic of African festivals to culinary delights like garba and ndole, through the pride of carrying a Bantu name or vibing to the rhythm of sports victories, each child made their declaration of love for their identity.

Indeed, the stories compiled in this book are much more than simple tales. They are a reflection of a growing pride, passed down, and celebrated in families and communities.

what do we do ?

Far from revenge and victimhood speeches, we feed on positive images in order to develop a positive cultural identity that encourages success. We work to promote Afro-optimism through history, storytelling, reading, games, cultural and artistic activities; these are all actions that create a powerful disposition for a positive impact on the overall quality of life of our communities, in terms of mental and physical health, socially and economically.
